Moving Out

The move out process described below occurs at the end of your housing contract. The check-out process will mainly be in-person.

Residents must attend their respective Final Floor Meetings, which will take place from April 24- April 29, 2024. Additionally, Hall Coordinators will be providing information to each resident via their UNM email. Express check-out packets will be housed with the Hall Coordinators, so each resident will need to contact their respective Hall Coordinator to discuss the resident's need for an express check-out.

 

Spring 2024 Hall Closing Reminders

 Lobo Rainforest contracts include the Summer 2024 semester. Current Lobo Rainforest residents who are moving out for Summer must complete a Contract Release Request and adhere to the deadlines listed below.

 

Halls Close 2:00PM on Saturday, May 11

All residents must complete a check out with their RA 24 hours after their last final or by 2:00PM on Saturday, May 11 at the latest. If they have gotten a mailbox key, they must return it to the Mail Room before their check out with the RA.

  • Residents in need of a Late Stay Request may request it from their Hall Coordinator. Late Stays are granted in cases of extreme need and provide a move-out extension until Sunday, May 12 at 12:00pm.
  • Residents approved for summer housing may remain in their current assignment until their summer space is available on May 12 at 5:00pm. 

 

Summer Housing Application Closes Tuesday, May 7 at 11:59PM

Residents looking to live on campus this summer must have their application submitted by 11:59PM on Tuesday, May 7. Summer housing will be located in select RVA apartments and Lobo Rainforest with multiple sessions to choose from. Registration for summer housing is available on the housing dashboard. If you are approved for a summer housing assignment, you will be notified by May 9 and will move into that space on May 12 from 5:00p- May 13 8:00a. You may stay in your current assignment until your summer assignment is ready.

  

Donate your gently used items to Lobo Reclaim!

In every building during Finals Week, there will be donation bins to collect any gently used unwanted items as a part of the Resident Lobo Reclaim project! Donated items are collected and stored over the summer and then are put up for a "sale" in the fall for anyone living here in the fall.

 

Contract Release Request

The housing contract for the 2023-2024 academic year ends at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 11.

Main Campus residents vacating their assignment on or after May 1 do not need to complete a contract release, but must complete a check out with their RA.

Lobo Rainforest  residents vacating their assignment must complete Contract Release Request and complete a check out with their RA. Contract Release Requests are available through the Hall Coordinator.

 

RA Check-Outs

At the end of the contract term for your living area, you must vacate your room/apartment. You can either complete an in person checkout with your RA. If needed, an Express Checkout can be requested with your Hall Coordinator. You are expected to vacate your room/apartment within 24 hours after your last exam and/or from the time you formally withdraw from UNM.

 

To fully complete a check out, you will:

  • Set up a check-out time with your RA at least 24 hours in advance
  • Remove all your belongings from your room.
  • Clean your room, bathroom, and kitchen, including cabinets and refrigerator (if applicable).
  • Return all keys
  • Return mailbox keys to the SRC Mailroom (Main Campus) or Lobo Rainforest Desk (Rainforest) during regular business hours.
  • Express Check Out Only: return the completed envelope to your area desk. A resident’s area must be clean before the checkout process begins.

Failure to go through the official checkout process will result in a $100 improper check-out fee. You are also responsible to pay for any damages to your room, including furniture, windows, doors, and/or lost or damaged keys. After checking out of your room a member of the RLSH Resident Education and/or Facilities staff will do an additional walk-through. At that time, additional damage charges may be assessed if they were not charged at the time of your check-out.

 For any student who abandons or leaves items within their room, RLSH will box and store the items for 30 days. There will be a fee assessed for the time needed to box the items. After 30 days, any unclaimed items will be donated or disposed of depending on the condition of the items. 

 

Room Inspections

As a resident, you are responsible for maintaining the condition of your room or suite, which includes all furniture, surfaces and cleanliness. At check in, you completed a Room Condition Report (RCR) specifying the condition of your room.  At move out, your RA will go over the space with you and update the RCR accordingly. Any damage to the room that is not reflected on your RCR and that is considered to be beyond normal wear and tear will be reflected as a charge. 

Most room damage charges are listed on our departmental Room Charge Sheets (see below). Atypical damages will be assessed by professional housing staff.
